Lowell-Tims Funeral Home
Altus, Oklahoma 73521
Our son, brother, and friend, Steven Lee Bautista met Jesus on the morning of August 7, 2017, at the age of 26.
He is survived by his father and mother, Jim and Melinda Bautista; two brothers, Skylar Bautista and Anthony Nickerson; two sisters, Stephanie Wimer and her husband, Corbin, and Sophia Monreal and her husband, Mike; maternal grandparents, Gilbert and Maria Montes; four nephews, Tristan Wimer, Michael, James, and Xavier Monreal; his Uncle, Gilbert Montes and wife Julie; his cousins, Georgia, Isaac, and Gracie Montes.
He is preceded in death by his baby sister, Sheridan Bautista.
Steven was born on January 3, 1991, in Midland, Texas. He attended Navajo High School in Altus, Oklahoma, and he graduated in 2009. During high school, he was a member of the Overflo Youth Group and Praise and Worship Band at Altus Christian Fellowship. He attended Western Oklahoma State College and graduated in 2011 with an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. Steven moved to Oklahoma City in 2013, and he began working as a TSA Federal Officer at the Will Rogers World Airport. His pride, leadership, and dedication to his work earned him the Eagle Eye Award in 2013 for identifying a concealed weapon in the security screening area of the airport at Will Rogers, a Safety Award in 2014, and he was 1 of 4 recipients of the National TSA Environmental Stewardship Award for Hazardous Material Management Program. While working full time, he was also pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Aviation at the University of Oklahoma. His dream since he was a kid was to fly, serve his country, and help others.
He loved spending time with his family, playing video games with his friends, traveling and exploring historical museums, playing his guitar that was gifted to him from his Poppie, Gilbert Montes. During the spring season, Steven was often out storm chasing with his fellow storm chasers. Anytime something needed to be fixed, Steven was everyone’s first call. There were numerous times in which Steven helped strangers who were stranded on the side of the road. Steven always put others’ needs before his. He was also a registered organ donor, and his wishes were to be able to help others in need.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 12, at First Baptist Church of Altus. Reverend Doug Altom will officiate, and Steve Brian will read his obituary. Burial will be in the Altus Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his sister, Sheridan. Serving as pallbearers will be Skylar Bautista, Corbin Wimer, Gilbert Montes II, Josh Means, Brent McClure, and Frankie Franklin. Anthony Nickerson will be an honorary pallbearer.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steven’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sheridan’s Sunshine Foundation. Steven loved his baby sister, and we know they are together now. The Bautista family would like to thank the members of First Baptist Church of Altus, CAE, the Altus community, and all their wonderful friends for their prayers, love, and support during this time.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday evening, August 11, 2017.
