It has really caused me to be retrospective
after reading all your stories from the past 30
years! Hard to believe that time has moved on
so quickly. Altus High School, for me, was a
brief 3 years of my life as a military kid. 3
years of high school, 2 years at WOSC and
then moving on to graduate at OU in 1981 on
the “5 year plan”! Such a short period in my
life, yet so much memories of fun! After
graduation, I moved to Houston, Texas where
during my first visit to Second Baptist Church I
looked into the choir and saw the girl of my
dreams! It took me 6 months to meet her (I
was always shy!), but I didn’t waste much time
after that, dating for 5 months, engaged for 5
months, married within 1 year! (Lesson to all –
go to church! Not only will you find the Lord,
but you can find other good things as well!)
Rebecca is my best friend, my wife of 23 years
and the mother of our two wonderful children.
The bible is right when it says that “Children are
a gift from the Lord”. Our daughter, Sarah
Elizabeth, graduated from high school in 2005.
I used to say she got her looks from her mom
and her brains from me, but when she became
a National Merit Scholar Finalist she shot that
theory out of the water. Now I have to say she
got everything from her mom! She just finished
her freshman year at Texas A&M, where she is
majoring in Biomedical Engineering. She is a
joy of a daughter. My son, Ben has grown up
to become my best male friend! We hunt
together, play golf together, run together; ok, he
runs, I barely jog! We have an annual

Terry Buckner Family

tradition of going to the OU – Texas game in October. The first one we
missed was last year; good thing! Ben has the unique distinction of being a
“world champion” bagpiper. He just finished his junior year at St. Thomas’
Episcopal School where they have a bagpipe band. Ben was already
musically adept with piano and guitar, so the pipes came rather easily(it only
has eight notes). The school travels to Scotland every few years and
competes against other juvenile bands. We are all going back to Scotland
this year for the month of August where the band will be competing to win
their 5th world championship! Oh, and yes, Joe and Tim, the bagpipes can
rock! These are high school kids, so when they do performances and aren’t
competing, they include electric guitar, bass, keyboard and drums! It’s
pretty amazing and weird at the same time! (Email me if your curiosity is
peeked and I’ll send you an mpeg of one of their songs). Rebecca home
schooled our children through the 5th grade, then when they went into “real”
school Rebecca was asked to teach, which she has done for the past 8
years. I have a construction company, focusing on residential remodeling
and mold remediation (Houston has lots of mold!). I don’t know if I will be
able to make it this year, but I wish for you all that can attend a wonderful
time!
