Hi ya'll!!!
Like everyone else, I don't know where 30 years went but some
of the early to mid 80's are a bit of a blur!! I am so excited to
see everyone at the 30th reunion! I love coming back home and
we get back about twice a year. The kids and I come in the
summer for a couple of weeks and then all of us come during the
holidays! Coming back to Southwest Oklahoma is like coming
back to my "touchstone", if that makes any sense!! I still feel in a
lot of ways that I am basically the same person that I was then but
just have more wrinkles and a few more pounds! (Did I just call
myself immature, or what?) Oh, sure, we've all "grown up" (what
ever that means) and I hope our changes or refinements are for
the better!
Life has been very good to me! We have lived in Georgia since
1988. I love the South and we have met some wonderful friends
through the years. Since all our kids have been born here, we'll
probably be here for awhile but I've always had a desire to move
back to the OK or Texas area. I've been married to Mike for
almost 20 years and we have three incredible children. Mike is
in the industrial electrical contracting business and has really
worked his way up in the company. In fact, we just went to Costa Rica through his work and it was ALL
EXPENSES PAID! I thought I had been dropped into a Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous episode!!! I
have never seen such beauty and luxury and we had a great time! Mike and I got really daring and took
one of those Rainforest Canopy Tours where you climb up to the top of this tree, hook yourself to a cable
and jump!! You get to zip line to the next tree waaaay off in the distance! Yes, we all sang George of the
Jungle and watch out for that tree!!! I also got to get my very own passport for the first time!
Unfortunately, for the picture, I just happened to have on a black turtleneck and a black leather jacket. I
looked like a drug runner, I guess, cuz our baggage got searched both in Costa Rica and back in the US!!
Thank goodness I hid those Cuban cigars really good! Just kidding!!!!!!
I am an independent contractor for the state of Georgia and
work with the foster care system. I have been in social work
since college ( with one exception) and love working with
foster parents and adoptive parents. My job is to write a
child's life history from birth to where he/she is now. Lots of
interviews, history of their birth family, psychological history,
etc. Each child is a joy to write about and I am thrilled that
most of the children I write about have adoptive placements.
Like I say to just about everyone I know...... BE A FOSTER
PARENT!!!
Ok.... kids...... can't believe that some of ya'll are
grandparents and I am still a perpetual room mom at the
elementary school! Cole, our oldest, is now 16 years old
and will be a Junior at Cherokee High School this fall. We
are talking redneck country over here in the deep South as
the school motto is "get 'er done". (ick) Cole is into Xbox
360, baseball and basketball and he is NOT a redneck!!!
Sara is 11 and will be in the 6th grade this fall. She is my
"middle child" and is the reason I have to have my hair
colored to cover the gray! Julie Mitchell tells me that Sara is
just like me when I was a kid!!! Sara will make a great
attorney someday as she can debate with the best of them!!
She loves softball and talking with her friends on-line (with
parental controls, of course)! Lauren is 9 years old and will
be in the fourth grade. She is my angel child!! She was the
first of six kids chosen this past school year in the whole
school (about 900 kids) to get the honor of Today's
Outstanding Pupil. Got her picture in the paper and
everything!! Lauren also loves basketball and hopes to play
softball next year. Can you tell I just love my kids!! I could
brag on them all but I would seriously run out of room.
Ok.. better run and I really hope to hear from all of you guys! I
talked with Dwight Ogletree today and he was telling me
about all the cool emails he has received since he sent in his
biography page!! and I want emails! Mitzi Byrd Dickerson
emailed me awhile ago and I hate to say that it was
accidentally erased!! Sorry, Mitzi!!!! I will try and respond
soon!!!!
Anyway... can't wait for the 23rd! I really hope that lots of
people show up... especially ones that haven't been back
yet. The reunions really are fun and it's like we all pick up on
conversations just like it was yesterday. When I tell my
friends here in Georgia about my reunions, they are envious
and also amazed that our class has stayed in touch and they
also think I come from a really wacky bunch of people... I
say...."wohoooo... I loved them all!!!!!"
Love to all and see ya soon!!
