Dearest Fellow Bulldogs,
I wavered whether or not to attend the reunion, but WHO
could resist after scanning Timmy Tim's class of '76
website?? While we may have all changed a bit
physically, I clearly sense the same charming
personalities coming forth in everyone's letters and am
looking forward to seeing everyone soon
.
I have lived in Austin, Texas since 1991. My husband,
Scott, and I have been married 23+ years. We have two
perfect (well more so than not) boys. Cameron just
turned 17 and will be a senior. Eric is 14 ½ and will
be a freshman. From the pics, you guess which kid is
the introvert and which one is the extrovert. Since
having kids, I have been the consummate stay at home
mom meaning I have "worked" in countless positions at
various schools as PTA president, fundraising chair,
band geek mom, etc. During this time I have become an
expert at organizing & implementing projects w/
little money, few volunteers, but hopefully always with a
smile, lots of laughs, and an occasional glass of
chardonnay. I am also very active at our church singing
in the choir and directing seasonal childrens' choirs. I
just completed a 4 year theology course which in theory
should lead me to mentor other classes within our
Episcopal diocese but like most courses of study, I am
left with more questions than answers. For fun and
because it's cheaper than therapy, I sing in several
choral arts groups and am currently the alto section
leader in the University of Texas Choral Arts Society, a
group of 48 musicians from central Texas. The group
performs regularly as UT ambassadors and allows me
to continue singing top choral literature. I also enjoy
working out and until 3 years ago had competed in
triathlons. My knees have now told me to stick w/
cycling and weightlifting. Our family loves watching
movies, playing board games, and taking vacations.
We've especially enjoyed yearly skiing and
snowboarding in Colorado. Sadly, as my kids get older
and with one now driving, I am appreciating the time
when all 4 of us are actually home at the same time.
Many of you know my brother, Steve, class of '77.
Thought I'd include his picture as well. As you can see,
only one of us has kept his natural hair
color. Steve is the low brass professor at University of
the Pacific music conservatory in Stockton, CA. It
suffices to say that his being the first sophomore to ever
make Oklahoma All-State orchestra paid off well for him.
He and his fabulous wife, Cathy, have no children but
several loving cats. I've spent the last several summers
working at summer music camps in which
Steve is the Director. It's been a rare joy to spend
extended time with my one sibling on an adult level. My
mom still lives in Altus having just retired after working
35 years at Altus AFB. Our one serious family struggle is
that Scott, a practicing neurologist, has ironically been a
chronic pain patient for the past 3 ½ years. I share this
because I know that in the last 30 years, all of us have
been affected by tragedy as well as joy. Believe me, no
one would ever accuse me of being a philosopher, but I
so appreciate those of you living in Altus that have
taken so much time to plan this special event. I've heard
many people over the years make fun of their high
school friends and experiences, but I've never been
able to share in their stories. I loved my experience at
AHS and have wonderful memories of good, solid, &
kind kids like you all.
You Rock!!
Peace,
Jean Perdicaris Spoor
