Robert “Pops” Richards, age 82 of Oklahoma City and formerly of Altus, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at his residence in Oklahoma City.
Robert was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on May 23, 1935 to his parents Elbert and Mae Etta (Mitchell) Richards. He grew up primarily in the Altus area and at the age of nineteen he married the love of his life Artie Mae Richards who preceded him in death in 1998. Robert served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge. He worked as an auto mechanic form many years and enjoyed fishing, playing baseball and softball.
Preceded in death by his wife and parents; two brothers, Elbert Richards, Jr. and Travis Richards; and his sister, Ruth Elle Hill; Robert is survived by six children, Faith Richards of Oklahoma City; Robert Earl Richards of Oklahoma City; Prayther “Rich” Richards and wife Cheryl of Moore; Anthony Richards of Oklahoma City; Timothy and Rodrick Richards both of Oklahoma City; brothers, David Richards of Altus and Joe Nathan Richards of Lawton; sisters, Novella Richards of Altus; Ruby Davis of Altus; and Benny Richards of Texas; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, June 23, 2017 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus with Pastor Ricky Lipscomb officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery Veterans section with military honors.
