Billy L. “Bill” Snodgrass, age 83, a longtime resident of Jackson County Oklahoma and Altus, Oklahoma, passed away, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in Edmond, Oklahoma
Billy was the first-born child of Earnest and Evelyn (Price) Snodgrass. He was born November 8, 1934 south of Olustee along the river bank in a half-dugout. About the age of 2, they moved to the Humphrey area where they lived until he graduated.
At the age of 6, his dad put him on a tractor plowing the cotton fields. He was so small he had to stand on the clutch with both feet to release it. He and his dad hired out to monitor irrigation ditches when irrigation first came to the area. He loved to play baseball. At 15, he went to work in the gin-upon graduation, he went north with the harvest crew. When they returned, he was dropped off in Oklahoma City, where he roomed with a friend, O.L. Jones. There he met the love of his life, Louise Sober, who was a nursing student at OU. They married December 24, 1953 in a double wedding with O.L. and his wife, Janette. Daughter Debbie was born in 1955, followed by daughter Brenda in 1960 and son Mark in 1961. He left the gin and started driving a truck. He remained in that business until he retired from Osborne's in 2001 as a warehouse manager and dispatcher. He loved to ride motorcycles and often had to take Brenda on a ride to get her to sleep when she was a baby. After retirement, he began his dream life as he bought a farm and began to farm and raise cattle. He lived in an earthly paradise the remainder of his days, farming and watching his herd grow.
Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James "Bud" Snodgrass and one sister Earnesteen Dalton; Bill is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Louise, of the home, daughter Debbie and Barry Milliner, daughter Brenda and Michele Fernandez and son Mark. Also surviving him are grandchildren Jessica Dillard, Dustin Medlock, Brett Medlock and Callie Hendricks, also six great-grandchildren, Christian, Adalyn, Brayden, Kian, Paisley and Zade, one brother, Wayne Snodgrass, one sister Peggy Terrill and numerous nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
