Reaga Faith Baucum, age 85, of Altus, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at her residence, in Altus.
Mrs. Baucum was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on March 1, 1932, to T. Reagan and Emma K. (Barry) Cavness. Growing up in Hollis, she graduated with the class of 1950, and began college at Southwestern College, in Weatherford. While there, she met the love of her life, Benton Ray Baucum, and they eloped, to Clovis, New Mexico and were married on December 26, 1952. They spent the next forty-seven wonderful years together before his death on March 24, 2000. After their marriage, they returned to college, where Benton graduated and they later moved to Altus where he taught at Wilson Elementary. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell and was a clerk typist, at home, for Benton’s insurance work. In 1964, they moved to Houston, Missouri where Reaga was a teacher’s aide and in 1971, they moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico where Benton taught school and Reaga was a homemaker and took care of their daughters. In 1972, they moved back to Altus and Reaga began a twenty year career with Civil Service, at Altus Air Force Base, working at the Library, in Personnel and Contracting, retiring in 1992. In her spare time she enjoyed making and purchasing dollhouses and miniatures in addition to reading, Downton Abbey, and listening to her music. She loved her cats. A longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Reaga was active in her church and her families’ lives.
Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Kerrie Hatcher and husband Bobby of Bokchito, Oklahoma and Erin Vail and husband Carl of San Antonio, Texas; a bonus daughter, Teresa Sellers and husband Jim, of Altus, and Robert; four grandchildren, Bennett Ephriam Mathis and wife Venus of Vernon, Texas, Amy Johnson and husband Mike of Weiden Germany, Eric Pedersen and wife Kelly of San Antonio, Texas and Laura Shaffer and husband Sean of Clyde, Texas; five great grandchildren, Xaylie, Elijah, Ryan, Devon and David along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Reaga Baucum will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the Centennial Chapel at the Altus City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
